With deep staffing and budget cuts at HUD’s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO) and the elimination of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives across federal programs, there is less direct federal oversight than in previous years. For many property managers, this has created uncertainty. Does reduced staffing mean enforcement will disappear? Will discrimination complaints be taken seriously? Despite these changes, one fact is unchanged: the Fair Housing Act remains the law. Housing providers are still required to comply, and residents are still entitled to protection.
